Nexuiz

Nexuiz is a fast paced 3d deathmatch game project created online by a team of developers called Alientrap. It is available for download for Windows, Mac, and Linux (all the same archive).

The first version was released May 31st 2005, released entirely GPL and free over the net, a first for a project of its kind. Since then it has been downloaded over 1.5 million times, and the game is still being updated and developed, currently at version 2.4 and new releases being developed.

My Comments
This is a high-quality first person shooter, very similar in style to Unreal Tournament and Quake 3: Arena. It's a whole lot of fun, graphics are excellent and higher quality than you would get from a lot of professionally developed games.

The worst thing that can be said about this game is that servers, of which there are plenty, are often empty. It's sometimes hard to find human opponents to play against.

The single player campaign is basically the same as the multiplayer, except with bots. Updates are still being created for Nexuiz, so this will hopefully mean it will grow in popularity.
